The Follow-Up Playbook

The newsletter is the reason to reach out. The follow-up is what turns it into business. Nobody ever got a referral from an email they sent and forgot about — the officers who get the most out of this are the ones who spend fifteen minutes on what happens after the send. The follow-up is the referral.

Five plays. Copy the templates, make them yours, run them every month.

1. The 48-hour check-in text

WHEN: Two days after you send the issue, to your warmest 10–20 contacts.

A short text beats a second email. You're not selling — you're making sure the useful thing you sent got seen.

Hey [Name] — just sent over this month's market update, the [City] numbers are in it. Worth two minutes if you're curious where things stand. – [Your Name]

2. When someone replies

WHEN: Any reply to your issue. Same day, no exceptions.

Reply like a person, not a brand. Answer the actual question in two sentences, then one soft next step — never a pitch.

Good question — short answer: [one or two plain-English sentences]. Happy to run your actual numbers whenever you're curious, no pressure either way.

3. The agent forward

WHEN: The Friday after each send, to your 5–10 closest agent partners.

This is the highest-ROI forward you'll do all month. Agents need content for their buyers, and the one who hands it to them gets remembered when those buyers need a lender.

Hey [Name] — this month's market update just went out to my database. Feel free to forward it to any of your buyers, it's written for them, not for loan officers. – [Your Name]

4. The quarterly forward ask

WHEN: With the March, June, September, and December issues.

Once a quarter, ask happy readers to pass it on. One line, no guilt. Most people never think to forward unless asked.

P.S. Know anyone thinking about buying or selling this year? Forward them this email — happy to answer their questions anytime.

Paste that at the top of your send those four months. That's the whole play.

5. The monthly rhythm

WHEN: Every month, same week the issue lands.
